Delaware Treasury Tuesday

Welcome to our Delaware Etsy Street Team weekly blog post where you help promote your Treasury and build up our team and local art community.
This week I have been on a bit of a roll with some of my other teams and have created a few treasuries in the last two days and wanted to share them here to hope the shops with items featured get a bit more traffic.

First is the Delaware Etsy Street Team, Team Treasury:

Second a treasury created for the Etsy Mud Team:
Objects That Delight Me

Third is a treasury created for the Original Saturday Night Specials Team:
SNS Saturday Night Specials Gathering

And lastly, some of my favorite items…
These treasuries seem to be the fastest to make since I seem to "heart" a lot of similar items depending on my mood and they just seem to come together easily.

With this heat wave we're in right now…
Bring on the Fall

Thank you for stopping by.

Nicole Kristiana and re:Fresh Party at World Cafe Live at the Queen

Last night was the July Wilmington, DE First Friday Art Loop.
And one of our Delaware Etsy Street Team members
Nicole Kristiana had an opening at The Grand.
Nicole Kristiana (photo by Patricia Whitman)
Nicole's work is amazing.
Her personality shows through her art work.
With all the colors, designs and textures, and the quality of her pieces,
Just from seeing them on her blog and Etsy shop,
Then in person,
You just get this feeling that this person has got to be delightful.
And you know what - she is!
She greets you with a beaming smile, is fun & upbeat, and very easy to talk to.

My photos do not do justice to the huge gallery space and the wonderful layout of Nicole's work in the gallery space at The Grand.
Quick photo of one of the gallery walls.
If you get a chance, you should stop by this month to see the exhibit.
Main Wall - Left three of seven paintings.
What I am calling the main wall had seven of her pieces hung and my camera could not get the entire wall. There was great symmetry to how the pieces were hung, that gives the room a great flow.
Patricia and Rebecca in front of the center painting on the main wall.
The right three paintings on the main wall.
After the art loop ended, my friend Patricia and I headed to the after party:
World Cafe Live at the Queen.
I personally love the idea of the re:Fresh after party where you get to experience the sounds of different music and socialize with Artists from the Art Loop among a lot of other people that are out enjoying the evening of art and music.
From the Wilmington Art Loop page, there is some info at the bottom of the page that says this is a monthly after party - so make sure to come out on August 5th for the next loop and after party!
Looking south down Market Street from The Queen.
These are some photos that I took with my iPhone Hipsatmatic app of the view from the Queen's 4th Floor private party room. It was a bit of a rainy night, but luckily we were able to get out and about in between the showers...
This film projector was one of the amazing original artifacts they have around The Queen.

The whole experience of getting out for a few hours last night just makes one feel so much in love with Art, with socializing with Artists, being in good company, in cool locations, and very much looking forward to making it a point to get out more and enjoy what's going on in Wilmington each month for the Art Loop.
Hope to see you next month on the loop and at the re:Fresh after party!

First Friday Delaware Style 1 of 2

Welcome to the First of Two First Friday Delaware Posts.
We're doing two because this is officially the First Friday on Etsy.
The Etsy AWE Team hosts this First Friday Art Walk
on the First Friday of the month on Etsy.

The Second will be next week because the local Wilmington Art Loop is next Friday, July 9th (moved because around here a lot of people head to the beach or have other things going on for the Fourth of July).

Here is a Treasury featuring all DEST members that are using FirstFridayArtWalk tags in their shop:

Mini Photo Shoot In North Wilmington

Written By Marsha of Marsha Neal Studio

On Saturday, June 4th 2011 Katy Timney of Katy Rose Photography (one of our DEST members) offered the team an opportunity for a "Mini Photo Shoot".

For those of us that were able to make it - it was a lot of fun!
AnticaTreasures Photo Taken By KatyRosePhotography

If you visit Claudia Twardus (AnticaTreasures) website, you can see how she has updated the photo above to fit the whimsical playful feel of her website.

And soon you will see items from that June photo shoot making an appearance in her beautiful and romantic Etsy shop:

From my point of view (I had never had anything photographed professionally before) it was an exciting experience. Very eye opening to see your work on a model - Wow!
I picked out a few pieces of jewelry for the ladies to wear, then stood back…
It really was amazing to watch Katy, Becky and Claudia work together.
You can tell they have done this before.

For my items in my MarshaNealStudio Etsy shop that my photography skills (I cringe at the thought of dealing with lighting, backgrounds, cropping, etc) have produced various levels of not so great images:

Improper lighting and quite frankly - boring:
MarshaNealStudio Photograph.
Trying to establish scale:
MarshaNealStudio Photograph
And when I actually made up a pair of earrings from some of these pieces, and had Katy take professional photographs at the mini photo session, this is what it looks like:
Becky wearing MarshaNealStudio Earrings, Photographed by Katy Timney.
Amazing!!! I think this gives the viewer a much clearer idea about what they are buying.

And as far as my listing goes, here is the updated background with examples of the three different designs that these earrings can be made from. Please ignore that the hole positions are different. That little thing will be updated once I find time to get into the studio to make a few more of these.

And overall, my shop has been updated with a few of the photographs, and there will be many more to come.

It is amazing how good photographs can help your shop look more professional.

And with each cycle of product making, photography, editing & listing, and feedback there will be room for growth and changes until you find what makes your shop exactly the way you want it.

By then, you'll probably be ready for a change, so it will be time to start over again fresh…

With that in mind - make sure to try new things - meet up with fellow artists - get feedback and think about it from that person's point of view (are they your ideal customer?).

Notice what you are attracted to and inspired by and take little steps to achieve your overall goals.

Katy has other dates for "Mini Photo Shoots" scheduled up on her FaceBook page for those of you that are considering doing something like this. Make sure to contact her first.
